Miles Morales and Miguel O'Hara Coming to Ultimate Spider-Man on Disney XD

It's a popular theory that part of Spider-Man's appeal is that his full-facial mask makes him very identifiable as an everyman hero: it could be literally anybody under that mask and we'd have no way of knowing it. Dan Slott played it for laughs in the page at right, where Spider-Man claimed to be black in order to play a courtroom prank on J. Jonah Jameson.

Well, we're about to get a much more literal taste of that on Disney XD's Ultimate Spider-Man, when Miguel "Spider-Man 2099" O'Hara and Miles "Ultimate Spider-Man" Morales join the cast in a move that mirrors the Spider-Verse story that's happening in the comics and the Spider-Man Unlimited mobile game. Agent Venom, Spider-Ham and Spider-Girl are also pictured in the promotional image at top, which ran in USA Today.

SPIDER-MAN NO MORE” CONTINUES: Can Miles return to Spider-Man after everything that’s happened? There’s a new band of superheroes in town! What is Ultimate Power Pack?!

PANICCIA ON "ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN" #23'S CHARACTER EXPANSION

On May 15, Marvel Comics' "Ultimate Spider-Man" #23 saw creative team Brian Michael Bendis and David Marquez pick up with Miles Morales one year after the death of his mother in the previous issue -- and Miles hasn't put on the webs since his mother's death. While many readers knew about the time-jump in advance, that wasn't all the surprises Bendis and Marquez had in store -- the issue brought the first Ultimate introductions of Kate Bishop and the duo of Cloak and Dagger, as well as the reintroduction of an old, familiar face from Peter Parker's days as the Ultimate web-slinger.

To shed some light on the latest developments in this week's issue, CBR spoke with the Marvel editor in charge of the Ultimate line, Mark Paniccia, about bringing new characters into the Ultimate Universe and what it means for the line moving forward. Plus, check out an exclusive first look at "Ultimate Comics Spider-Man" #24 interior art.

A Kid Who Doesn’t Want to Be Spider-Man Is My Favorite Panel This Week

Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #23 - People who’ve worn the webbed mask have abandoned being Spider-Man before. The cover of this week’s Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #23 riffs on the classic John Romita image from Amazing Spider-Man #50, when Peter Parker quit. And I want to say that Ben Riley stopped web-swinging because of angst, too. But I could be wrong about that.

Bendis Talks Changes for Marvel's Ultimate Universe

Spoilers: Brian Bendis talks about the big events of Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #22.

Brian Michael Bendis has been the shepherd of the Ultimate Universe since the beginning, formulating the basis of the entire line with his run on Ultimate Spider-Man that began nearly 13 years ago. Not content to settle into one status quo for too long, Ultimate Peter Parker was killed off in early 2011 to make way for a replacement hero named Miles Morales, who has since continued the Ultimate tradition of keeping these stories full of surprises.

CONTRARIAN FANBOY: Miles Morales is the Superior Spider-Man

Spider-Man is up there as one of my top three comic book characters (Batman and Alana from Saga are the other two, and Alana edged out Daredevil only recently). Because I was introduced to him via his earlier adventures, I had always understood him to be a stand-in for kids like me, or kids like anybody that reads comics in general because Spider-Man was an outcast.

Peter came from a poor neighborhood. He was an orphan. He wasn’t into fashion or music, or movies or any other thing that marks a person as being cool. He liked science (nerd!) and amateur photography (artsy nerd!) and, well, not much else.

Bendis Adresses "Venom Strike" complaint... like a boss

Just like Capt. America uses that shield as a crutch? and what’s with thor always using that hammer?

I’m not exactly sure what you’re talking about is my point… in fact one of the story beats I keep doing is that he forgets to use the venom blast and his cloak because it is still an unnatural thing for him.
