According to creative director Bryan Intihar, Miles Morales’ role in Sony’s Spider-Man PS4 game grew over the development process. Originally, Miles’ role was minimal, until Intihar went and read up on the character’s history. From there, the relationship between him and Peter was too good of an opportunity to pass up.

“I just fell in love with the character,” Intihar told GamesTM. “Just like MJ can provide a different perspective on the world, I thought Miles and his relationship to Peter brings something different.”

In the game, the two will meet courtesy of Aunt May’s job at F.E.A.S.T. “I’m pretty excited about him and where we take him. It’s going to be something. It’s going to surprise people,” he shared.

It's a popular theory that part of Spider-Man's appeal is that his full-facial mask makes him very identifiable as an everyman hero: it could be literally anybody under that mask and we'd have no way of knowing it. Dan Slott played it for laughs in the page at right, where Spider-Man claimed to be black in order to play a courtroom prank on J. Jonah Jameson.

Agent Venom, Spider-Ham and Spider-Girl are also pictured in the promotional image at top, which ran in USA Today.

On May 15, Marvel Comics' "Ultimate Spider-Man" #23 saw creative team Brian Michael Bendis and David Marquez pick up with Miles Morales one year after the death of his mother in the previous issue -- and Miles hasn't put on the webs since his mother's death. While many readers knew about the time-jump in advance, that wasn't all the surprises Bendis and Marquez had in store -- the issue brought the first Ultimate introductions of Kate Bishop and the duo of Cloak and Dagger, as well as the reintroduction of an old, familiar face from Peter Parker's days as the Ultimate web-slinger.

To shed some light on the latest developments in this week's issue, CBR spoke with the Marvel editor in charge of the Ultimate line, Mark Paniccia, about bringing new characters into the Ultimate Universe and what it means for the line moving forward. Plus, check out an exclusive first look at "Ultimate Comics Spider-Man" #24 interior art.
