The artist on the new Ultimate Comics Spider-Man takes us behind the scenes on the creation of Miles Morales and more.

FIGURE #1: “At one point I decided to give Miles a dog; please don’t ask—there was no reason to do it but I just liked the idea. Jokes aside I was trying to figure his personality out.”

FIGURE #2: “In this pic Miles looks older (the drawing with the jacket ensemble), because the first idea was to have the new hero the same age of Peter Parker, but then we changed our mind, so this could be his older brother! What a pity—he was hot I think. Nice coat [by the way], don’t you think?”

FIGURE #3: “The haircut wasn’t approved yet, but I tried to do some expressions, just to see if the face structure was working. I added the key color to see how the skin tone would have fit on that face.”

FIGURE #4: - “Here Miles was 12-14 years old; still his age wasn't sure but I was trying to find the right body and face proportions. I was studying the haircuts too.”

FIGURE #5: “Here's some versions of the new costume. I did a ton of versions, but this is just a sample of the evolution of the suit. Oh! And there is the new USM logo in the background that [we] designed for this new series.” [SOURCE]
